Welcome! My name is Han Xiao (肖涵). I’m an engineering lead at Tencent AI Lab, leading teams on neural information retrieval and inner & open-sourcing AI infrastructure. I’m the founder and the chairman of German-Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence e.V., a registered non-profit organization in Germany (VR 36510B) focusing on AI exchange between Germany and China. I’m also a board member of the Linux Foundation Deep Learning Foundation.

I have been working in machine learning for the last 9 years. Before joining Tencent, I was a Senior Research Scientist at Zalando from 2014 to 2018, working on recommendation and search systems. I was the main driver of deep learning based end-to-end product search. I’m also the creator of Fashion-MNIST, one of the most popular open-source AI projects in 2017.

I completed Ph.D. in 2014 and M.Sc. in 2011 both at Technical University of Munich, majored in computer science. My doctoral dissertation is about adversarial and robust machine learning, supervised by Prof. Claudia Eckert and Prof. Daniel Cremers. Before moving to Germany, I did my Bachelor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2009.

I travel frequently between Berlin, Shenzhen and Beijing. If you are in one of those cities, feel free to contact me.
